Promo ideas for #WorldOceansMonth!

I'm super excited about June because, not only is it World Oceans Month, it's also time for one of my favorite annual events - Cephalopod Week (squeee!). If you're a small business owner or nonprofit, World Oceans Month is a great opportunity to run sea-themed promotions or just have fun with beach-themed social media posts. 

For me, the ocean is all about science. It is such a wondrous place and we actually know very little about it! I am so blessed to live in San Diego, California, and the ocean has always been a refuge of solace, a place to rejuvenate and an endless canvas of new and interesting wonders. We see dolphins and seals regularly and I've even had 6 foot long leopard sharks swimming all around me - and that's just near the shoreline!

As with all social media, just make sure your message is relevant to you or your organization. For example, Pixel Lava is celebrating #WorldOceanMonth by supporting the Final Straw Kickstarter campaign with the goal of stopping plastic pollution. I'm also doing beach clean ups and using my business to promote ocean conservation. Whatever your message, the key is to create a meaningful connection.

So whether you intend to hop on the promo bandwagon or not, get out there and enjoy the ocean this month. If you haven't been to your own nearby beach in awhile, make a point of going! And if you're landlocked, you can participate in countless ways online and set your sails for a seaside visit some time soon. Either way, happy World Ocean Month - and #WorldOceanDay on June 8th!
