No fancy equipment needed
I started out with a 15 year-old treadmill and have added an $80 used stationery bike (thanks Craig's List!) and a $100 used rowing machine (thanks NextDoor). I might try a rebounder trampoline as a non-electrical alternative to the treadmill. The point is, you don't need anything fancy or expensive to enjoy these virtual workout videos. I have found that wearing wireless headphones and matching the video to the motion and to the weather/time of day is an effective way to really feel like I'm in the midst of the activity. For example, if I want a quiet workout in the evening after a long, busy day I'll pull up a Seoul Walker video to hike through Seoul's hilly, beautiful streets.
Born from a near-death experience
In early 2022 I was diagnosed with CLIPPERS, a neurological disorder characterized by brainstem lesions. For several months I had debilitating double vision and loss of balance and was eventually hospitalized as the symptoms became life threatening. Thankfully, I received effective treatment from my great medical team and recovered over the next six months. During that time, even with full double vision I could cover an eye, climb on my stationery bike and instantly be miles away out in the sunshine biking around. This was literally life saving as it kept my body strong to deal with the treatments and it kept the fear and despair of facing a life-threatening illness at bay. Today I am in remission and enjoy getting out into the real world on my bicycle and eBike to film my own videos. However, with the increasing heat and traffic of my beautiful home town, my love of first person POV walking, running, cycling and rowing videos has only grown. Aside from a great workout, they let you travel the world collecting amazing experiences from riding a camel to the Great Pyramid to taking in the holiday lights in London. Rarely a day passes that I don't put in 30 - 60 minutes exploring new destinations ... and it's my great joy to add the best to this channel. So lace up your shoes, get a used exercise machine and give it a try - it might just be the special thing you've needed all along. Now's the time. ~ Ame
