Field Notes Blog
News and thoughts on UI/UX, web design, and more.
At the beginning of 2013 I did some industry research and discovered that for our region, my specialty area and my skills & experience level the average hourly rate is seventy-five dollars per hour. Wow! I decided that it was time to bring my rates up closer to what's current. Starting on 1/1/13 my standard hourly rate changed to $65 and my non-profit rate became $60. My rates for current clients remained unchanged temporarily.
This is my first rate change since 2008 and represents a modest increase of less than 3% per year which is in line with compensation rates across the tech sector when averaging in the recession. With that in mind I am now standardizing these rates across the board to my existing clients as well. I believe that I bring great value to my clients in that I now have 16 years of frontline web development, graphic design, and client relations experience. I continually develop my skills with classes in everything from web standards to new software to responsive design & apps. Because I love what I do, I am always expanding my services and updating my product offerings. I’m very excited to announce that as of January 2013, the sites I’m building are mobile friendly and I have stayed true to my mantra of empowering my clients with user-editable sites. I’m hoping to begin offering apps soon too. As we head into the new fiscal year I’m more excited than ever about what we can do online to make our businesses, our lives and the world a better place. Thank you so much for being a part of the ongoing success of Pixel Lava.
